Your first appointment will involve an evaluation by Dr. Serban Nicolaescu, Dr. Shawn Faust, or Dr. James Arturo to determine what the issues are and what type of treatment would be most effective for you.

We will probably suggest a panoramic x-ray (an x-ray of your entire head, mouth, and jaw) to get a clear picture of what is going on under the surface and evaluate the dental and bone structure.

When your evaluation is complete, we will spend some time talking to you about our findings, offering treatment recommendations, and answering all of your questions. Once your questions have been answered, we will determine if you or your child are ready to begin treatment and explain all of your payment and insurance coverage options as well as our standard fee structure. We don’t want you to leave with any worries or anxieties. Instead, we want you to feel informed, educated, and prepared.

When Should Orthodontic Treatment Begin?

Most orthodontic problems are inherited. That means if you had or needed braces, your children probably will too. Other orthodontic issues are caused by accidents or trauma or develop over time because of thumb sucking or the delayed loss of baby teeth.

Whatever the cause, an early start is ideal. We recommend bringing your child to see us as early as three, but beginning braces before the jaw has stopped growing is essential for lasting results. Plus, early treatment results in such benefits as shorter treatment times and improved outcomes since dental braces can mold the bone around the teeth and jawbones as your child continues to grow.

Orthodontic Interceptive Therapy

Because our team includes highly-trained orthodontic specialists, we can offer interceptive therapy for children who display certain oral development issues. Interceptive therapy is offered for children, usually between the ages of six and 10, and treats such things as:

Premature tooth loss, helping hold the space for a permanent tooth
Congenital dental abnormalities such as transposed teeth, malformed dentition, or missing teeth
Habits like thumb sucking or tongue thrusting that can lead to future dental issues
