Dr. Joo grew up in New Jersey and earned his BA with Magna Cum Laude honors from Cornell University. After graduation, he attended the University of Heidelberg in Germany as part of the DAAD exchange program. Initially undecided about his career path, he spent some time as a high school mathematics teacher before deciding to pursue dentistry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey Dental School (Rutgers University).
After dental school, Dr. Joo was commissioned into the US Navy, where he completed a general practice residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. He then completed the Navy’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Joo served a total of 12 years in the US Navy, with assignments around the world.
In his spare time, Dr. Joo enjoys working on his collection of Japanese cars and participating in SCCA and VSCCA events.
